Meet Kenny
This is a very special boy with a sad start in life, but we have the power to change his future!
He was a puppy when he was adopted from Columbia Animal services around 3 years ago by an individual that lived in Ridgeway. He was put on a chain in a back yard where he spent day after day watching others with no attention given to him until a neighbor asked if she could adopt him and his owner agreed! Kenny finally had a couch, toys, daily food/water but most importantly, he had a home, family and love.
This big boy was never taught manners like walking on a leash, not barreling out of the door as soon as it opened and stay. This past summer, Kenny saw a couple of dogs being walked by their owner and as these things tend to happen, his owner was walking out the front door at that same moment. His excitement got the best of him and Kenny ran straight to those 2 smaller dogs.
There has been a good number of accusatory statements made regarding this incident so allow me to set the record straight. He is a large, muscular dog that would scare anyone that didn’t know him if he ran towards them. His size and strength alone are intimidating. Another dog that is a small breed, would absolutely appear to be “under attack” if Kenny decides to try and play with it. The truth is, IF Kenny intended to harm another dog, small or otherwise, he could do so without much effort. In this incident, NO DOGS WERE HARMED.
Animal Control were called to the home, the owner of Kenny received a warning that Kenny must be controlled but since no animals or people were harmed, he remained with his family.
Fast forward a few months, Kenny’s owner was making every effort possible to get him the exercise and enrichment he needed by taking him to vacant fiends and areas where no one lived but Kenny kept getting away and was picked up twice as an animal at large. It was with immense sadness and reluctance that Kenny was surrendered to the shelter.
“You can’t change a dog’s past, but you can rewrite the future.”
